Two-thirds of this island is Virgin Islands National Park — rainforest trails, petroglyphs and bays so clear they built an underwater snorkeling trail with explanatory plaques on the seabed at Trunk Bay. Cruz Bay is a small, mighty waterfront of grill rooms and art galleries. Leave the car behind and ferry over.
The largest and most local of the three. Danish-colonial color blocks in Christiansted and Frederiksted, a moat-like barrier reef around Buck Island Reef National Monument, and Point Udall — the easternmost point of the United States — where the sun rises first.
